Last 30th of March, me and my Play Production classmates headed to Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center (KLPAC) which is located in Sentul, KL as part of our class assignments. KLPAC is one of Malaysia's well known place for the local arts movement. Many arts enthusiasts, performers and fans gather here not only to work on art pieces, but also to enjoy artistic performances of many forms, such as theatrical performances, exhibitions, dance performances and many more.
Our trip to KLPAC on that day was solely based on our desire to experience how was it like to watch a local produced play directed by none other Mark Beau de Silva, who happens to be one of the household names in KLPAC itself, and also to enjoy the beauty of the place itself (KLPAC is also known for its beautiful old-school architecture and green environment, hence that explains why it is one of most chosen location for wedding photography etc), besides later attending a workshop that was conducted by Mark himself.
Upon reaching KLPAC, we were mesmerized by the beauty of the place itself and now believe all the great stories we heard of KLPAC. The architecture that focuses on using lots of tall, big glass windows to allow natural lighting into the building, and using red bricks as the foundation of the building contribute to the KLPAC's distinctive beauty itself. The place is surrounded by lots of trees, and there is even a lake next to the building!

An hour after reaching the place, we watched a short play entitled My So Called Diary (That You Are Not Supposed to Read!) written and also directed by Mark Beau de Silva, and what made the play special was it was performed by the children ensemble who were extremely talented and to add to that, the cast also contributed to the screenplay itself too! the play was told in a every interesting manner, and there was so much energy and enthusiasm from the cast that really got our attention. The play ended almost 45minutes later.

The amazing cast all in place and ready! |
After done with watching the play, some of the KLPAC workers directed us to the second level of the building and we then headed to Studio 2 to attend a workshop by Mark. The workshop was mainly about Mark helping us to prepare ourselves for our staging of Les Miserables in May. He taught us the basic fundamentals of play production and also acting exercises. The session started with a warm up exercise of snake-entangled game and continued with vocal exercises and few other interesting games. The evening was filled with nothing but fun, fun and fun!

Us being silly in Studio 2 :D
The day ended at 6pm, before we headed back to our lovely UPM. Not only we got to de-stress ourselves from taking a break from our routines as students in UPM to watch a play and attend a very beneficial workshop, but we also managed to travel to a new place, in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Most importantly, what was special about it was, the place was like a paradise to us, being surrounded by beautiful nature, which made it a paradise in the concrete jungle of KL.
